Running back J.K. Dobbins is now with the Denver Broncos after a career-best season in 2024 with the Los Angeles Chargers, where he set personal records in rushing yards (905), carries (195), and touchdowns (9) over 11 starts. Despite this strong showing, the Chargers decided to move in a different direction during the offseason.
Los Angeles added veteran Najee Harris in free agency and selected rookie Omarion Hampton in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. They placed an unrestricted free agent tender on Dobbins, giving them exclusive negotiation rights until July 22 if no other team signed him. But Denver swooped in, giving Dobbins a fresh start—and a new divisional rivalry.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Dobbins expressed surprise at how the Chargers handled his departure. While he called it “just business,” he made it clear that he’s motivated by the situation. “Good luck to them. I’m a Bronco now. They’ve got to see me twice a year,” he said.
Dobbins emphasized that his goal isn’t just to beat his former team. He’s focused on winning a championship with Denver. “I’m always going to have that chip on my shoulder. But I’m here now, and I’m focused on bringing a Super Bowl to this city. I’ve made the playoffs every year I’ve played. I’m tired of losing in them.”
Originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Dobbins enters his sixth NFL season with 2,252 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 429 career carries. Now in Denver, he’s aiming to turn personal motivation into team success.
