Pistons Consider Pursuit of Grizzlies’ Santi Aldama in Free Agency
As the NBA offseason approaches, the Detroit Pistons are expected to be active in shaping their roster following a surprisingly successful season. After finishing sixth in the Eastern Conference and pushing the New York Knicks to six games in the first round of the playoffs, the team is looking to build on its progress.
With a young core centered around Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, and Jalen Duren, Detroit is now faced with the decision of whether to trade for another star or strengthen its roster through free agency and smaller moves. One name that has emerged as a potential target is Memphis Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, there is league-wide speculation that the Pistons could seriously pursue Aldama, who will be a restricted free agent. While Memphis has the option to match any offer, they may be reluctant to do so if the Pistons extend a high-value deal.
Aldama, 24, had a strong season, averaging 12.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists while shooting 48.3% from the field and nearly 37% from beyond the arc. His continued development, particularly on the offensive end, makes him a valuable bench piece—potentially backing up veteran forward Tobias Harris if Detroit decides to add him.
Bringing in Aldama would give Detroit another versatile big man who can stretch the floor and support the team’s growing core, making the Pistons a team to watch closely this summer.
