Louisville Dominates Miami 8-1 in Super Regional Opener
After a rollercoaster season, the Louisville baseball team is now just one win away from reaching the College World Series in Omaha.
Hosting a Super Regional for the first time since 2019, Louisville wasted no time taking control in game one, defeating Miami 8-1 in the opening matchup of the best-of-three series.
The scoring began in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back home runs from Garrett Pike and Jake Munroe. Miami responded with a run in the third, but Louisville exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the inning, aided by a crucial Miami error and another home run from Munroe.
Munroe later added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to bring in his fifth RBI and cap the scoring for the day.
Cardinal starter Patrick Forbes pitched 5.2 innings, allowing only one run on four hits while striking out nine batters. Though he issued four walks, Forbes managed to escape two bases-loaded situations, preventing Miami from gaining momentum.
The Louisville bullpen continued its strong performance. Brennyn Cuts pitched 1.1 innings allowing just one hit, followed by Justin West, who finished the game with only one hit allowed.
Overall, this was one of Louisville’s cleanest games in the tournament so far.
The team now needs just one more win to advance, with game two scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m., broadcast on ESPN.
