Broncos Show Interest in Free Agent RB J.K. Dobbins
J.K. Dobbins, a veteran NFL running back, visited the Denver Broncos this week as the team explores potential additions to its backfield. Head coach Sean Payton confirmed that Dobbins arrived in Denver on Wednesday night and met with team officials over dinner. He was expected to be present at team facilities on Thursday during the final day of Organized Team Activities (OTAs).
“We’ll have a chance to visit with him and then we’ll see where it goes,” Payton said.
Dobbins, 26, became a free agent after spending the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers. He started strong, rushing for 266 yards and two touchdowns in the first two games. By the end of the season, he had accumulated 905 rushing yards, nine touchdowns, and 32 receptions. Known for his ability as a pass-blocker, Dobbins is considered one of the top veteran backs still available, along with former Browns running back Nick Chubb.
Despite his early-season success, Dobbins’ performance dipped as the year progressed. He averaged just 3.8 yards per carry after the opening two games and missed four games due to injury.
Coach Payton reiterated his confidence in the team’s current group of running backs, which includes rookie RJ Harvey, second-year players Audric Estime and Blake Watson, along with Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Badie. However, he acknowledged that Dobbins could be a valuable addition.
“Just another good football player that we’ve seen first-hand,” Payton said. “We really like the group right now, but it’s another opportunity to possibly bring in a player who can help us win.”
Watson did not participate in Thursday’s practice but was seen training on a side field.
