Illinois Pursues Mississippi Cornerback for 2026 Recruiting Class
The University of Illinois football program has scheduled an important official visit with three-star cornerback Raderrion Daniels from Lake Cormorant, Mississippi. The visit will take place from June 17-19 as the Illini look to strengthen their 2026 recruiting class, which currently ranks among the nation’s top 10 with 16 commitments but includes just one defensive back.
Daniels has expressed steady interest in Illinois’ program under head coach Bret Bielema. The 6-foot defensive back noted he’s been closely following the team’s progress, saying, “I’ve been keeping my eye on them.” Secondary coach Corey Parker has led Illinois’ recruitment efforts for the Mississippi prospect, who possesses the size and athleticism the Illini covet in their defensive backs.
The upcoming visit to Champaign falls in the middle of Daniels’ busy summer schedule, which includes seven official visits to various programs. Illinois will have the opportunity to showcase their defensive development system and the potential for early playing time in their secondary rotation.
Illinois’ recent success developing NFL-caliber defensive backs like Devon Witherspoon and Kerby Joseph serves as a key selling point. The program’s ability to prepare players for the professional level, combined with their need for multiple defensive backs in this recruiting cycle, makes them an attractive option for Daniels.
With defensive back being a position of emphasis, Daniels represents one of several targets Illinois hopes to land to complete their 2026 class. His mid-June visit will allow the coaching staff to make their case before he evaluates other programs on his schedule. The Illini view Daniels as an ideal fit for their defensive scheme and culture as they continue building toward sustained success in the Big Ten.
