Carey Price, the former Canadiens goalie, reflected on his career during a recent event where he was named Sports Personality of the Year. Having played 15 seasons in Montreal’s demanding hockey environment, Price shared advice for young players about handling the pressures and spotlight that come with playing for the Canadiens.
Price emphasized the importance of embracing both the highs and lows of the experience. He said learning from difficult moments and staying humble during successes are key to personal growth. His own journey included significant achievements and tough setbacks, which shaped his approach to the game and life.
One of Price’s career highlights was the 2014-15 season, when he won the Hart Trophy as MVP and the Vezina Trophy as the league’s best goalie. He also led Montreal to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final, playing through a serious knee injury that ultimately shortened his career. He’s widely expected to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame soon.
Price also spoke candidly about challenges, including losing his starting position in 2010 to Jaroslav Halak. Instead of becoming discouraged, he chose to keep working hard and remain ready. This resilience was praised by teammates and helped him maintain a long and successful career.
Now retired and living in Kelowna, B.C., Price is focusing on family life with his wife and three children. Though he’s open to returning to hockey in a coaching role someday, he currently prioritizes being present for his kids during this new chapter in his life.
