The Orioles’ three-game winning streak came to an end despite a strong effort from Ryan O’Hearn, who hit a three-run homer. Baltimore’s Ryan Mountcastle had three hits, including two doubles, and Ramon Urias added two hits, but the team struggled with runners in scoring position, going 1-for-14.
St. Louis reliever Steven Matz earned the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, while Ryan Helsley secured his 11th save by pitching the ninth inning. Arenado, Winn, Alec Burleson, and Walker each had two hits, helping the Cardinals rebound after managing only four hits in Monday’s game.
The Cardinals jumped to an early 3-0 lead with Willson Contreras’ RBI single and Nootbaar’s two-run homer in the first two innings. The Orioles responded with a run in the fourth on Heston Kjerstad’s groundout and took a 4-3 lead in the fifth after O’Hearn’s ninth homer of the season. However, St. Louis tied the game in the seventh on Winn’s RBI single before Arenado’s homer put them ahead.
Andre Pallante started for the Cardinals, pitching 5 2/3 innings and allowing four runs (three earned), walking three, and striking out seven. Orioles starter Tomoyuki Sugano gave up three runs over 5 1/3 innings, while Baltimore used six pitchers in total.
