Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano, once regarded as one of the top players at his position, has faced a series of injury setbacks in recent seasons. After earning All-Pro honors in 2022, his time on the field has been limited, with only nine appearances over the past two years. Despite these challenges, there is growing optimism that Milano may be poised for a strong comeback in 2025.
One football analyst believes Milano could return to form this season. After agreeing to a pay cut, the veteran linebacker appears motivated and determined. This change, combined with time to recover and train, has raised hopes among fans and analysts that he may once again play at the elite level he displayed earlier in his career.
Zoltán Buday of Pro Football Focus noted Milano’s reduced playing time recently, highlighting that after surpassing 1,000 defensive snaps in 2021 and 2022, he managed just over 500 in total across the last two seasons. An injury shortened his 2023 campaign after five games, and another setback delayed his 2024 debut until Week 13. However, he impressed in limited action, especially with a standout performance during the playoff win over Denver.
Bills fans, often referred to as “Bills Mafia,” are hopeful that Milano’s return can elevate an already strong defense. Even without him, Buffalo’s defense has managed to remain one of the top units in the NFL, a testament to the coaching of Sean McDermott and the team’s depth. A fully healthy Milano, though, could be the missing piece to help the team make a deeper postseason run.
If Milano can stay on the field throughout the 2025 season, it could significantly improve Buffalo’s chances against top-tier opponents like the Kansas City Chiefs. As a team captain and defensive leader, his presence would not only strengthen the linebacker corps but also add much-needed stability and experience to the lineup.
