Stanton Nearing Return:
Giancarlo Stanton is progressing toward a return to the Yankees lineup, according to GM Brian Cashman. Although he has not yet played this season due to issues in both elbows (tennis elbow), Stanton has resumed batting practice and baserunning drills. Manager Aaron Boone noted that while Stanton has expressed interest in skipping a minor-league rehab stint, the team would prefer he gets game reps before rejoining the roster to ensure full readiness.
Victory in Colorado:
The Yankees secured a tight 5-4 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, thanks in large part to a three-hit game by J.C. Escarra and a go-ahead RBI from Aaron Judge. The game included a lengthy rain delay but resulted in the Yankees’ sixth straight series victory. Despite the Rockies’ poor record (9-44), the win helped the Yankees maintain their strong run of form.
Trade Market Activity:
Reports suggest the Yankees are actively pursuing a right-handed hitter, preferably one who can play third base, due to a lineup heavily weighted with left-handed hitters and the injury loss of Oswaldo Cabrera. Potential trade targets include Otto Lopez (Marlins), Lenyn Sosa (White Sox), and Amed Rosario (Nationals). Additionally, the Yankees are also exploring options to add another starting pitcher.
Pitching Philosophy:
The Yankees’ pitching staff has largely focused on control and movement over high velocity, a strategy that has contributed to their success this season. One exception is reliever Jonathan Loáisiga, who recently returned to the bullpen and brings high-velocity pitches to the mix, often reaching the upper 90s with his fastball.
Roster Move – Hummel to Orioles:
Cooper Hummel, a utility player previously with the Yankees’ Triple-A team, signed with the Baltimore Orioles after being released by New York. Hummel activated a contract clause that required the Yankees to either promote him or release him. Despite limited Triple-A appearances due to injury, he impressed with his versatility and plate discipline. Now with the Orioles, he’ll earn a $765,000 salary for the season.
