Former Steelers WR Deon Cain Making Strong Case for NFL Comeback in UFL
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Deon Cain is turning heads with his standout performance in the United Football League, keeping his hopes for an NFL return alive. Now playing for the Birmingham Stallions, Cain has emerged as one of the UFL’s top offensive threats this season.
In a recent game against the Michigan Panthers, Cain hauled in four receptions for 84 yards and scored two touchdowns. The week before, he had a similar impact, posting two receptions for 115 yards and two scores in a narrow loss to the St. Louis Battlehawks. With these performances, Cain currently ranks third in the UFL in receiving yards and second in touchdowns.
Cain has long been a top performer for the Stallions and continues to add to his skill set as a kick returner. His playmaking ability was previously highlighted when he earned MVP honors in the USFL Championship Game after catching three touchdowns, helping the Stallions win back-to-back league titles.
Originally drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Clemson, Cain’s NFL career has been marked by stints with multiple teams. He joined the Steelers in 2019 during a stretch of injuries in their receiving corps and had several notable moments. More recently, he had brief tenures with the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers before being released by Buffalo in December 2024.
At 28, Cain continues to demonstrate the skill, speed, and versatility that could make him a valuable depth addition for NFL teams in need of wide receiver and special teams help.
