Steelers May Re-Sign Speedy Receiver Calvin Austin III, Insider Reports
The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly considering re-signing wide receiver Calvin Austin III, according to team insider Gerry Dulac.
Austin stepped up last season as the team’s No. 2 wide receiver next to George Pickens. With Pickens now gone, Austin has a greater opportunity to establish himself further, potentially earning a long-term contract if he continues to perform at a high level.
Dulac noted there is a “modest chance” the Steelers could offer Austin an extension before he becomes a free agent next year. The organization appears interested in keeping him in the fold.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated echoed that sentiment, stating that many within the Steelers organization hold Austin in high regard. “The Steelers think more highly of Calvin Austin III than people realize,” Breer said. “He’s someone to watch now that Pickens is gone.”
Austin had a breakout year in 2024, recording personal bests in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. He showcased his deep-threat capabilities working with quarterback Russell Wilson and also made a major impact on special teams. Austin returned 28 punts for 289 yards and a touchdown while also catching 36 passes for 548 yards and four touchdowns—an average of 15.2 yards per reception.
Now entering the final year of his rookie contract, Austin is positioned to take on a larger role and potentially secure a lucrative deal with the Steelers.
