Steelers Fan Site Proposes ‘Sneaky’ Trade for Terry McLaurin Amid Commanders Uncertainty
The Washington Commanders appear committed to a “win-now” approach, with wide receiver Terry McLaurin playing a key role alongside rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels in their vision for a playoff run. However, McLaurin’s recent absence from voluntary offseason activities—his first such absence—has raised concerns among fans and sparked trade speculation.
Although his absence could stem from various personal or strategic reasons, it comes at a time when McLaurin and the team reportedly began preliminary contract extension discussions back in March. His current status leaves Washington fans uneasy, especially as they await mandatory minicamp to determine whether his absence signals a potential holdout.
Meanwhile, a Pittsburgh Steelers fan site has suggested that the Steelers pursue a trade for McLaurin, calling it a “sneaky” opportunity. Understandably, Commanders fans are not on board with that idea, labeling any potential trade as a “terrible” move.
McLaurin remains one of the NFL’s most reliable receivers, having posted over 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past five seasons. In 2024, he recorded 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns—despite inconsistent quarterback play throughout much of his career.
Washington’s preferred future involves McLaurin continuing to develop a long-term connection with Daniels. However, his next contract could be costly, with top receivers like Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and CeeDee Lamb earning between $34–$40 million per year.
Despite the financial challenge, the Commanders’ plan remains to keep and extend McLaurin—not trade him. For now, speculation continues, but the team seems intent on making him part of its future.
