During the release of the NFL’s 2025 schedule, it was also revealed that the Pittsburgh Steelers will debut new throwback uniforms in Week 8. The unveiling is set for October 26 during their Sunday Night Football matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Acrisure Stadium—an ideal moment to showcase a classic design against another historic franchise.
While the team already features a well-known “block number” throwback, this new addition will bring fresh nostalgia to Pittsburgh’s uniform collection. Steelers President and owner Art Rooney II confirmed the team would unveil new throwback uniforms this season, though he stopped short of revealing what they will look like. He did express excitement about the upcoming release, saying, “Our fans love the history of this team, and we think they’ll really enjoy what we have planned.”
Several vintage styles are being speculated as potential choices. Options include the 1933 city crest uniforms, the bold black-and-yellow “bumblebee” stripes from 1934, the 1960s gold-helmet look, the “Batman” uniforms from 1967, and the white-on-white set worn in the early 1970s. Each uniform represents a different era of Steelers football and offers a chance to honor the team’s legacy.
Among fans, the bumblebee uniforms stand out as particularly memorable. Though considered unusual, they’ve become a nostalgic favorite, partly due to Ben Roethlisberger’s six-touchdown game in them against the Colts in 2014. Their bold design brings personality and fun to an otherwise classic uniform lineup.
Regardless of which design the team ultimately chooses, Rooney emphasized that honoring the franchise’s tradition was central to the decision. “Throwback games are a great opportunity to connect generations of fans,” he said. “We want to celebrate the rich history of Steelers football in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.” With that in mind, any of the rumored designs could serve as a fitting tribute to the team’s past.
