Cam Fowler Embracing New Role with the Blues, Hopes to Stay Long-Term
Cam Fowler’s transition to the St. Louis Blues has been a major success. After spending the first 991 games of his NHL career with the Anaheim Ducks, Fowler was traded to St. Louis in December and has quickly become one of the team’s top contributors on defense.
Since joining the Blues, Fowler has ranked among the top ten point-producing defensemen in the league, totaling 36 points in the regular season. He marked his 1,000th NHL game in style by scoring twice during the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field. In the postseason, he led the Blues in scoring with 10 points—ranking just behind league leaders like Mikko Rantanen, Kyle Connor, Nathan MacKinnon, and Connor McDavid after the first round.
Blues President and GM Doug Armstrong praised Fowler’s immediate impact, describing him as a key piece in their top defensive pairings. Armstrong emphasized how seamlessly Fowler has fit into the system and hinted that the veteran defenseman has a strong place in the team’s future plans.
Fowler, who has one year left on his current contract, made it clear in his end-of-season media availability that he’s open to staying in St. Louis for the long haul. He spoke highly of the team, city, and fans, saying he and his family have felt welcomed and happy since the move. Discussions about an extension are expected to take place over the summer.
Looking ahead, Fowler expressed excitement about what lies ahead for the Blues. He said he feels fully integrated with the group and motivated by the direction the team is heading. With both sides showing interest in continuing the partnership, Fowler could be a key figure in St. Louis for years to come.
