J.J. Lippe Reflects on Packers Call After Going Undrafted, Calls It a Dream Come True
Fate took an unexpected turn for Wisconsin native J.J. Lippe during the 2025 NFL Draft. Despite going undrafted, the offensive lineman’s hopes of playing for his childhood team, the Green Bay Packers, remained alive.
After the draft, Lippe received a surprise call from the Packers inviting him to their rookie camp. He made the most of the opportunity, impressed the coaches, and ultimately earned a contract with the team.
“It’s definitely a dream come true,” Lippe said in an interview. “Growing up as a Packer fan and watching guys like Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre, it’s something I’ve always wanted. I’m really happy to be here.”
Lippe, a 6’5” guard, played college football at Northern Illinois, where he appeared in 52 games and started 47 over four seasons. Despite not playing for a Wisconsin college team, his performance at NIU established him as a reliable presence on the offensive line.
Though disappointed by being overlooked in the draft, Lippe and his family were thrilled when the Packers reached out.
“They’re so excited,” he shared. “My whole family are Packers fans. My phone has been blowing up. My fiancée’s from California and didn’t grow up a fan, but I’ve taken her to a few games and she’s really into it now. She’s proud of me, and so are my parents.”
Lippe’s journey to the Packers is a reminder that sometimes the right opportunity comes in unexpected ways—and for him, it’s a chance to live out a lifelong dream in front of a hometown crowd.
