Matthew Stafford Eager for “Good Battle” Against Former Team in Week 15 Showdown
When the Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions swapped quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff in 2021, the move turned out to be a success for both franchises. Stafford went on to win a Super Bowl with the Rams, while Goff helped lead the Lions back to relevance using the additional draft picks acquired in the trade.
Now, both teams are once again expected to be contenders, making their Week 15 matchup one to watch. The game, scheduled for Sunday, December 14 at 4:25 p.m. ET in Los Angeles, could carry major playoff implications.
Speaking on NFL Network, Stafford expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming game.
“It’ll be fun,” Stafford said. “We’ve had some great games. Dan [Campbell] and Jared have done an amazing job turning things around. They’ve been playing great football. They lost a few coordinators, which brings challenges, but every year is a fresh start. Having the game at our place in December should make it another strong contest.”
Stafford has faced his former team three times since the trade. The Rams won the first meeting in Los Angeles in 2021, but Detroit got the better of him in their last two matchups—one in the playoffs after the 2023 season and another in the 2024 season opener. He’ll look to even the record in this season’s clash.
