Buffalo Bills Strengthen Defense, Emerge as Super Bowl Contenders
The Buffalo Bills are shaping up to be strong Super Bowl contenders after an offseason centered on improving their defense.
Last season, quarterback Josh Allen led one of the NFL’s top offensive units. Though the team added wide receivers Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore in free agency, the main focus was clearly on fixing the defense.
To address that, Buffalo signed defensive players Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht, Larry Ogunjobi, and Darrick Forrest to strengthen the front line and secondary. The team then used its first five picks in the 2025 NFL Draft on defensive players.
Pro Football Focus praised the Bills’ approach:
“After finishing 28th in team defense grade last season, the Bills made the right decision to reload defensively. First-round cornerback Maxwell Hairston is expected to start immediately, and defensive linemen T.J. Sanders, Landon Jackson, and Deone Walker have the talent to contribute right away. Even late-round picks like Dorian Strong and Jordan Hancock could see the field early and provide valuable depth.”
The Bills are banking on meaningful contributions from these new additions. Once Ogunjobi and Hoecht return from suspensions, the defense—led by players like Bosa, A.J. Epenesa, and Greg Rousseau—could become one of the league’s most formidable units.
Paired with an already powerful offense, this improved defense gives Buffalo a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl run. If the rookies and free-agent signings perform as expected, the Bills will have the balance needed to support Josh Allen and compete at the highest level.
