Ravens Sign Derrick Henry to Record-Breaking Extension
The Baltimore Ravens have secured running back Derrick Henry for the foreseeable future, signing him to a two-year, $30 million contract extension. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, $25 million of that deal is fully guaranteed, making it the largest contract ever awarded to an NFL running back over the age of 30.
This new deal follows Henry’s initial two-year, $16 million agreement signed before the 2024 season—a move that proved to be a steal. In his debut year with Baltimore, Henry rushed for 1,921 yards and a league-leading 16 touchdowns, solidifying his value as one of the league’s premier running backs, even at age 30.
Henry made a significant impact against division rival Pittsburgh last season. Though limited in their first matchup, he dominated the next two games. In Week 16, he racked up 162 yards on 24 carries in a 34-17 win. In the Wild Card playoff game, he exploded for 186 yards and two touchdowns, including a 44-yard score that sealed the Ravens’ 28-14 victory. His 186 rushing yards and Baltimore’s 299 total on the ground were both postseason records against the Steelers.
In response, Pittsburgh focused on strengthening its defense in the draft, selecting defensive linemen Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black, as well as outside linebacker Jack Sawyer.
Overall, Henry finished the 2024 season with 2,191 total yards and 21 touchdowns (19 rushing, 2 receiving) across regular and postseason play. Earlier this year, Henry expressed his desire to retire as a Raven—this extension puts him on track to do just that.
The dates for Baltimore’s 2025 regular-season games against Pittsburgh have yet to be announced, but one thing is clear: the Steelers will be preparing to stop Derrick Henry.
