Mark Pope Reacts to Kentucky’s Early-Season Showdown with Louisville
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope met with the media Tuesday to share offseason updates on his basketball program, including roster developments and scheduling plans. One of the standout topics was the upcoming rivalry matchup with Louisville, which will take place on November 11 — the earliest date for the game in the history of the series.
Pope addressed the timing of the game with a lighthearted comment, jokingly suggesting that Louisville was responsible for the unusual scheduling. “Scheduling gets increasingly complicated. I actually don’t know how we got to the date, but I am sure it’s Louisville’s fault,” he said, adding, “I say that with all due respect to Pat (Kelsey),” referring to the Cardinals’ head coach.
Despite the game falling early in the non-conference slate, Pope appeared unfazed. He emphasized the importance of a tough regular-season schedule and seemed comfortable with the early test, signaling confidence in his team’s preparation.
The Wildcats will begin their season on October 24 with an exhibition game against Purdue. Pope also noted that the program may add another exhibition game to the schedule ahead of the regular season.
This upcoming clash will mark just the third time Kentucky and Louisville have met in November, adding another unique chapter to their storied rivalry.
