Kyle Schwarber Eyeing $100 Million Deal as Phillies Consider Future
Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber could be on track to secure a contract worth over $100 million, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. With high-value contracts becoming the norm for top-tier players, Schwarber’s consistent production and leadership have made him a candidate for such a payday.
Passan pointed out that Schwarber’s ability to deliver at the plate and his respected presence in the clubhouse make a four-year deal averaging $25 million annually a realistic expectation. Despite being 33 by next Opening Day, Schwarber’s offensive impact and the lack of elite bats in upcoming free agency classes bolster his case.
Schwarber is entering the final year of his current four-year, $79 million contract with Philadelphia and is set to earn $20 million this season. He has expressed a strong desire to remain with the Phillies, stating earlier this year that there’s mutual interest in continuing the relationship, though no extension has been finalized.
The veteran slugger believes team success is the most effective path toward a new deal. He referenced former teammate Jon Lester’s philosophy that “winning gets you paid,” and plans to keep that as his focus as the Phillies pursue a deeper postseason run after falling short in the 2024 NLDS.
With a stable core of players entering their third or fourth year together, Schwarber is confident that the team is poised for success. However, if an agreement isn’t reached during the season, he could become one of the most highly sought-after free agents this winter.
