Kentucky Wildcats Officially Sign Local Standout Reece Potter
The Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team has officially added Reece Potter to its roster, as head coach Mark Pope announced the signing of the 7-foot-1 center on Thursday. Potter, originally from Lexington, Kentucky, returns home after spending two seasons at Miami (OH).
Coach Pope praised Potter’s skill set and familiarity with Kentucky basketball culture, calling him a “Lexington Catholic legend.” He described Potter as a versatile big man who can shoot, pass, and protect the rim—qualities that align well with Kentucky’s playing style. Pope emphasized that Potter understands the significance of wearing the Kentucky jersey.
Potter had a solid collegiate run at Miami, where he averaged 6.3 points and 3.4 rebounds in under 16 minutes per game. Known for his efficiency, he shot 45.4% from the floor and nearly 40% from three-point range. He started 11 games as a freshman and played in 30 contests last season, helping the RedHawks reach the MAC Tournament title game.
Among his standout performances was a perfect 8-for-8 shooting night against Sacred Heart, including three three-pointers, where he scored 19 points. He also recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in a strong showing against Eastern Michigan in the MAC Tournament’s opening round.
Before college, Potter starred at Lexington Catholic, earning 11th Region Player of the Year honors and averaging 17.9 points and 8.7 rebounds as a senior. His leadership as a team captain helped secure a district championship. With his signing, Potter becomes the 88th Lexington native to play for the Wildcats and joins six other newcomers on Kentucky’s 2025 roster.
