Trent Grisham Joins Yankees’ Power Surge, Surpasses Expectations in Breakout Season
While Aaron Judge continues to make headlines with a historic 2025 campaign, he’s not the only New York Yankees slugger turning heads. Outfielder Trent Grisham, initially seen as a depth piece, has emerged as one of the team’s biggest surprises this season.
The Yankees, who lead Major League Baseball with 62 home runs, have Grisham to thank for a notable share of that production. He recently became just the fourth center fielder in Yankees history to hit 10 or more home runs within the team’s first 37 games, joining legends Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Curtis Granderson.
Grisham, acquired in the same trade that brought Juan Soto to New York, initially struggled to find his footing. In his first 76 games with the Yankees, he batted just .190 with nine home runs and an OPS of .675. But when Soto left in free agency to sign with the Mets, Grisham seized the opportunity for regular playing time.
In his first 31 games of 2025, Grisham has slashed .292/.367/.650 with 10 home runs, 20 RBIs, and a 1.017 OPS — a dramatic turnaround that’s helped solidify his place in the starting lineup and in center field.
His success comes at a time when Judge is making history of his own. The reigning AL MVP is batting an astonishing .400 with 12 home runs, 34 RBIs, a .750 slugging percentage, and a 1.241 OPS — numbers that haven’t been seen since Ted Williams’ legendary 1941 season.
Grisham credits the team’s positive clubhouse culture and leadership from Judge for helping him thrive. “The clubhouse is really good here, led by ‘Cap’ [Aaron Judge],” Grisham said. “I’m having fun with the guys — that’s been the best part.”
With both Grisham and Judge firing on all cylinders, the Yankees appear to have struck gold at just the right time, and if Grisham can keep up his momentum, New York may have landed an unexpected star.
