Green Bay Packers Encouraged to Pursue Former Top Draft Pick Jadeveon Clowney
The Green Bay Packers enter the 2025 NFL season with a promising roster built by general manager Brian Gutekunst. While the team is expected to be competitive in the NFC, certain areas, particularly at edge rusher, could use additional depth and experience.
Though the Packers didn’t make a big splash at the position in early free agency, they did select Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver in the 2025 NFL Draft. These rookies show potential, but may not be ready to contribute significantly right away.
Recently, the Carolina Panthers released Jadeveon Clowney, the former No. 1 overall pick, sparking speculation that the Packers could be a logical landing spot for the veteran pass rusher.
Analyst Zach Kruse of Packers Wire suggested the team consider signing Clowney, stating that he could provide valuable depth and experience to a largely young defensive end group. He noted that Clowney wouldn’t need to play full-time, but could still make an impact in a rotational role, especially in run defense and pass-rushing situations.
Clowney has appeared in 140 NFL games, amassing 409 tackles, 58 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, and a defensive touchdown, among other stats. While it’s uncertain whether the Packers will make a move, Clowney represents a seasoned option who could strengthen a key position for the team.
