Illinois Lands Commitment from In-State 2025 Guard Blake Fagbemi
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois men’s basketball has secured a commitment from Blake Fagbemi, a 2025 point guard out of Benet Academy in Lisle, Illinois. Fagbemi, who had previously pledged to Division II Truman State, played a key role in leading Benet Academy to the IHSA Class 4A state championship this past season. The six-foot senior averaged 13 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds per game, earning him All-Area honors from the Chicago Sun-Times.
Fagbemi delivered strong performances in the state tournament, including a 14-point, 6-assist outing in a 55-54 win over Warren in the title game at the State Farm Center, and a 10-point, 7-assist, 4-steal game against Evanston in the semifinals.
With Fagbemi’s addition, Illinois now has 14 players on its 2025–26 roster. The lineup includes experienced players like Ben Humrichous (GR), Kylan Boswell (SR), and Ty Rodgers (R-JR), along with underclassmen such as David Mirkovic and Brandon Lee. One scholarship spot remains open.
Bart Torvik’s preseason projections rank Illinois No. 8 nationally, trailing only Purdue (3rd), Michigan (5th), and UCLA (6th) among Big Ten programs.
