Giancarlo Stanton Eyes Late-May Return from Elbow Injury
New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton has confirmed that he plans to return to the lineup by the end of May after recovering from an elbow injury sustained during spring training.
Stanton recently spoke with ESPN’s Jorge Castillo and shared that he’s preparing for a rehab assignment, though no exact start date has been set. Manager Aaron Boone noted that Stanton likely won’t need an extended rehab stint since he doesn’t play defense.
The 35-year-old said he’s waiting to see how his body responds to live batting practice and emphasized that once he’s back on the field, it means he’s ready to play, even if it means managing pain.
Stanton has been receiving injections to manage discomfort in his elbow and acknowledged that some level of pain will remain even when he returns to action.
With the Yankees leading the AL East in his absence, Stanton’s return could shift the lineup dynamics, particularly affecting players like Ben Rice, who has stepped up as a key contributor early in the season.
