The Los Angeles Rams have built a reputation for finding value beyond the first round of the NFL Draft. Despite having just one first-round pick in the past nine years, they’ve consistently uncovered impact players in later rounds. Names like Puka Nacua, Kyren Williams, Steve Avila, and Kobie Turner have all emerged as key contributors, many of them becoming starters without the fanfare of early-round selections.
That trend may continue with their 2025 seventh-round pick, wide receiver Konata Mumpfield from Pittsburgh. While he wasn’t one of the most talked-about prospects, ESPN analyst Louis Riddick has identified him as the Rams’ top rookie selection this year. Riddick’s strong endorsement stands out, especially given the depth and competition within the Rams’ wide receiver group.
Mumpfield may not possess elite size or speed, but he brings a valuable skillset: quickness, intelligent route-running, and adaptability. He stands 5’11”, weighs 186 pounds, and uses sudden changes of pace and timing to create separation from defenders. His playing style has even drawn comparisons to Davante Adams, known for his elite release and route techniques.
Despite playing in a struggling Pitt offense that rotated through four quarterbacks, Mumpfield still led the team in receiving yards by a wide margin. His ability to remain productive in a difficult environment suggests a high football IQ and strong potential to develop in the NFL. That versatility could make him a useful weapon in Sean McVay’s offensive system.
With established targets like Puka Nacua, Tutu Atwell, and new addition Davante Adams already in place, Mumpfield adds another layer of flexibility to the offense. His well-rounded skillset allows him to contribute in short, intermediate, and deep passing situations. If he adjusts quickly to the pro level, Mumpfield could be the Rams’ next late-round success story.
