Ole Miss has added former Louisville forward James Scott to its roster through the transfer portal. Scott becomes the second player from Louisville to join head coach Chris Beard’s transfer class this offseason, following guard Koren Johnson.
Scott, a 6-foot-11 forward, started his college basketball career at Charleston. When head coach Pat Kelsey accepted the job at Louisville, Scott followed him to the ACC school. Over the past two seasons, he played in a total of 70 games between the two programs.
During his time under Kelsey, Scott averaged 6.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 1.0 assist per game. With his size and experience, he is expected to bring depth to the Ole Miss frontcourt as the team prepares for another strong run, after reaching the Sweet 16 last season.
His move to Oxford will reunite him with Koren Johnson, who also transferred from Louisville earlier this year. Johnson and Scott were teammates at Louisville and will now help anchor the Rebels’ effort in the competitive SEC.
In addition to Scott and Johnson, Ole Miss has brought in other transfers this offseason, including Kentucky guard Travis Perry, LSU forward Corey Chest, and Kansas guard AJ Storr. These additions reflect Coach Beard’s strategy of using the transfer portal to build a strong and experienced roster for the upcoming season.
