Everson Pereira’s Strong Performance Could Earn Him a Yankees Roster Spot by June
The New York Yankees boast a competitive roster, largely due to the elite performance of Aaron Judge. Widely considered the best hitter in baseball, Judge is putting up numbers this season that resemble those of legendary sluggers like Barry Bonds and Babe Ruth, far surpassing most of his peers.
Despite Judge’s dominance, the Yankees still have holes in their lineup and may look to bolster their roster through trades later in the season. However, they also have promising talent within their own farm system, which could offer internal solutions.
Recently, the team promoted Jorbit Vivas to fill in for the injured Jazz Chisholm Jr., highlighting their willingness to give young players a chance. While Vivas is still adjusting, another prospect may be making an even stronger case for a call-up.
Everson Pereira, a standout outfielder in Triple-A, is pushing for a major league opportunity.
Pereira, 24, has long been regarded as one of the Yankees’ top prospects. Though his time in the majors has been limited so far, his performance in Triple-A this season is hard to ignore. Over 20 games, he’s hitting .284 with a .357 on-base percentage and a .541 slugging percentage — slightly better than his numbers over 40 games last year.
With power at the plate, solid defensive skills, speed, and a strong arm, Pereira has the tools to make an impact. His right-handed bat would complement the Yankees’ lefty-heavy outfield, which includes players like Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger. Pereira could be particularly useful in a platoon role against left-handed pitching, or even as a designated hitter to add balance to the lineup.
If he continues to perform at this level, Pereira may earn a spot on the Yankees’ major league roster as early as June.
