Giants GM Compares Jaxson Dart’s Situation to Josh Allen’s Rookie Year
New York Giants General Manager Joe Schoen recently reflected on his past experience with quarterback Josh Allen while discussing the team’s new first-round pick, quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Schoen, who was part of the Buffalo Bills front office when they drafted Allen in 2018, noted similarities between Allen’s early NFL journey and the current plan for Dart. During a recent interview, Schoen recalled how Allen was initially expected to sit his rookie season, but plans changed when the Bills were forced to play him in the first game due to poor performance by the starter.
Drawing from that experience, Schoen emphasized that while Dart is not expected to start immediately, the NFL learning curve is steep, and being behind veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston could benefit him greatly.
“Jaxson’s got a lot to learn,” Schoen said. “It’s a complex offense, but having two experienced professionals in the room will help him grow.”
Dart, selected 25th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, had an impressive final season at Ole Miss, throwing for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, with a completion rate of 69.3%. Though Wilson and Winston are expected to lead in the short term, Dart is viewed as a potential long-term solution at quarterback for the Giants, a position that has lacked stability since Eli Manning’s retirement.
