George Pickens Nearly Requested Trade From Steelers Amid Draft Trade Rumors
During the buildup to and throughout the 2025 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens was the subject of persistent trade rumors. Multiple reports, including from Dianna Russini (The Athletic) and Jordan Schultz (Fox Sports), indicated that the Steelers were actively fielding and making calls about potentially trading Pickens. Among the teams reportedly interested were the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys.
These rumors gained traction after the Steelers traded for wide receiver DK Metcalf and promptly signed him to a lucrative contract extension. This move appeared to unsettle Pickens, with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reporting that the young receiver came close to formally requesting a trade.
However, Fowler noted that Pickens ultimately chose to stay in Pittsburgh, citing his strong relationship with head coach Mike Tomlin as a key reason for remaining with the team.
While questions remain about Pickens’ long-term future with the Steelers, he is expected to begin the 2025 season in Pittsburgh.
