NC State May Lose Top Transfer Target After New Commitment
After securing a commitment from center Paul Mbiya on Friday, NC State’s basketball program might be out of the running for another key transfer target—former Louisville big man James Scott. Scott, a 6-foot-11 Fayetteville native, is currently visiting Auburn, which is now considered the leading contender for his commitment.
Scott began his college career at the College of Charleston before becoming a starting forward at Louisville. Last season, he averaged 7.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and nearly a block per game while shooting an impressive 75.5% from the field. He led Louisville in blocks (30) and dunks (79), helping the team to a 27–8 record and a second-place finish in the ACC.
Originally ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 38 center in his class, Scott has since risen to a four-star status in the transfer portal, ranked No. 109 overall and No. 12 at his position.
While NC State’s chances with Scott appear to be fading, the program remains in strong contention for another major transfer—former Memphis guard PJ Haggerty, who is ranked as the top point guard currently in the portal. The coaching staff continues to pursue other talented prospects as well.
