Bills Finalize Decision on Amari Cooper After Signing Elijah Moore
Throughout the offseason, there was ongoing speculation that the Buffalo Bills would acquire another wide receiver for quarterback Josh Allen, especially after adding Josh Palmer in free agency.
General manager Brandon Beane had expressed frustration over criticism regarding the team’s approach to upgrading the receiving corps in the draft. Despite not having a clear No. 1 receiver, the Bills still averaged an impressive 30.9 points per game last season using a committee-style receiver rotation—an approach that worked well.
Now, the team has signed Elijah Moore, formerly of the Cleveland Browns, to a one-year contract, further strengthening the receiving group.
This move likely closes the door on a possible reunion with Amari Cooper, who previously played for the Bills. However, NFL.com’s Kevin Patra believes Cooper shouldn’t be ruled out entirely. He argues that Cooper’s familiarity with the offense and past chemistry with Allen could be valuable, especially if the team could bring him back at a low cost.
Despite that viewpoint, Moore’s signing gives the Bills a deep group of receivers: Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, Josh Palmer, and Moore—along with tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox. With only one football to go around, adding Cooper would further crowd an already full receiver room.
The idea of bringing back Cooper may have had merit before Moore joined the team. But now, it seems increasingly unlikely that the Bills will pursue him, especially given the strong supporting cast already in place for Allen.
