The Philadelphia Phillies made a roster move on Thursday by acquiring right-handed pitcher Daniel Robert from the Texas Rangers. In exchange, the Rangers received minor league pitcher Enrique Segura. This trade adds experienced bullpen depth to the Phillies’ system as the team continues to strengthen its pitching options.
Daniel Robert, age 30, spent much of his career in the minor leagues before making his Major League debut with the Rangers last season. In limited action, he pitched five innings across four games, allowing two runs. Although his time in the majors was brief, he showed potential as a reliable reliever.
So far in the 2025 season, Robert has been pitching well at Triple-A Round Rock, recording an impressive 1.54 ERA over 10 appearances. The Phillies plan to assign him to their Triple-A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, to continue evaluating his performance before potentially calling him up to the major league roster.
Enrique Segura, the pitcher going to Texas, is just 20 years old and still early in his professional development. He began last season at the rookie level for the Phillies and later advanced to Class A Clearwater. While he faced challenges initially, his performance this season has improved, with a 3.18 ERA across four outings, including three starts.
This trade reflects a typical mid-season move where a contending team like Philadelphia looks to bolster its depth with an experienced arm, while a rebuilding team like Texas takes a chance on a young, developing pitcher with potential for future growth.
