Jordan Travis Announces Retirement from Football; Robert Griffin III Responds with Support
Quarterback Jordan Travis has officially announced his retirement from football after struggling to recover from a severe college injury. In a heartfelt message shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Travis explained that his leg had not healed properly despite extensive rehabilitation, forcing him to step away from the game on medical advice.
Travis, who began his college career at Louisville before transferring to Florida State, suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle during a game in November 2023. Though he was later drafted by the New York Jets in the fifth round (171st overall), he never played a game for the team.
In his retirement announcement, Travis wrote:
“On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with doctors and my agent, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love.”
He ended his message by expressing gratitude to those who supported him and shared his faith that God has a greater plan, including a verse from Proverbs.
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, who also faced a career impacted by injury, responded with encouragement:
“God’s got you.”
Travis’s agent, Deiric Jackson, later claimed that the Jets had pressured the young quarterback to return to the field prematurely. Despite being provided top-tier rehabilitation resources, Jackson said the organization’s urgency may not have aligned with Travis’s physical readiness. Speaking to ESPN in March, Jackson initially expressed hope that Travis would return for the 2025 season, but that plan ultimately proved impossible.
