3 Buffalo Bills Players at Risk After 2025 NFL Draft
Following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills’ roster is beginning to take shape, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Out of their nine draft picks, six were defensive players, highlighting the team’s commitment to addressing weaknesses from last season. These additions may create tough competition for some veteran players trying to hold onto their spots.
Cornerback Dane Jackson is one such veteran facing uncertainty. The Bills made multiple moves in the secondary, including signing Jackson and Tre’Davious White, and then selecting Maxwell Hairston in the first round. Hairston is expected to start alongside Christian Benford, which could push Jackson down the depth chart. Given that releasing Jackson would result in minimal dead cap, his roster spot is in jeopardy.
Defensive end A.J. Epenesa is another name to watch. Despite signing a two-year, $12 million extension in 2024, Epenesa could be on the move with only one year left on his deal. The Bills added several new pass rushers, including Joey Bosa, Michael Hoecht, and rookie Landon Jackson. Additionally, young player Javon Solomon has shown promise. Trading Epenesa would save Buffalo over $6 million in cap space.
Wide receiver Laviska Shenault may also struggle to secure a place on the team. While he offers kick return ability, his roster chances are slim following the addition of rookie Kaden Prather, a 6’3″ receiver with special teams upside, and the free agent signing of Elijah Moore. Shenault, who spent last season with Seattle and the Chargers, appears to be on the outside looking in.
These roster decisions highlight the Bills’ ongoing effort to stay competitive by injecting youth and flexibility into key positions. As training camp approaches, veteran players will need to prove their value to avoid being overtaken by emerging talent.
