Yadier Molina and Brothers to Be the Focus of New Film Project by Lin-Manuel Miranda
Cardinals fans will soon see one of their all-time greats celebrated on screen. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the acclaimed creator of Hamilton and In the Heights, has announced a new film project centered on the Molina brothers—Bengie, José, and Yadier. The trio made baseball history as the only set of brothers to each win a World Series title, and the film aims to highlight both their individual accomplishments and their shared legacy.
The Molina brothers hail from Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, which is also the hometown of Miranda’s father. Miranda spoke about the deep baseball roots in the area, noting that not only the Molinas, but other MLB stars like Bernie Williams, also come from there. He emphasized the importance of celebrating Latino stories, saying, “We claim them for Vega Alta,” and highlighted his goal of creating meaningful roles for Latino actors in the process.
While specific details about the movie are still under wraps, Miranda made clear that the project is personal and culturally significant. He shared that he wants to write roles he would want to play himself—ones that open doors for Latino talent and tell inspiring stories like that of the Molina family.
For St. Louis fans, the film will serve as a tribute to Yadier Molina, one of the most respected catchers in MLB history. Molina spent his entire 19-year career with the Cardinals, earning 10 All-Star nods, 9 Gold Gloves, and 4 Platinum Gloves. He played a key role in leading the team to four National League pennants and two World Series titles, appearing in 2,184 games behind the plate—ranking fourth all-time among catchers.
Since his retirement in 2022, Molina has remained active in baseball, managing teams in Puerto Rico and Venezuela. He is also slated to manage Team Puerto Rico in the upcoming 2026 World Baseball Classic.
