The New York Knicks bounced back from a tough Game 2 loss with a narrow 118-116 win over the Detroit Pistons in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series. The victory gives the Knicks a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven matchup and marked a much-improved offensive performance from the team.
A key adjustment in Game 3 was the increased involvement of Karl-Anthony Towns, who had been underutilized in the previous game. Towns led all scorers with 31 points, shooting efficiently from the field and beyond the arc. He also contributed on defense with eight rebounds and two blocks, helping the Knicks build early momentum and maintain it through the second half.
Jalen Brunson continued to shine, especially in the fourth quarter where he scored 12 of his 30 total points. Fresh off being named Clutch Player of the Year, Brunson delivered several critical shots down the stretch. His consistent offensive production throughout the series — including multiple 30-point, seven-assist games — has been crucial, especially after recovering from an ankle injury that sidelined him late in the regular season.
The Knicks’ defensive effort was equally important. OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges not only contributed offensively with 20-plus points each, but also disrupted Detroit’s offense. The duo combined for five steals and three blocks, limiting Pistons star Cade Cunningham to 24 points on inefficient shooting. Their ability to contain Cunningham was a major factor in New York’s win.
With renewed confidence and a 2-1 series lead, the Knicks will look to build on their momentum when they face the Pistons again in Game 4 on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST. A win would give New York a commanding position as the series returns to Madison Square Garden.
