Josh Allen Caught Off Guard by Tre’Davious White’s Return to the Bills
The Buffalo Bills have re-signed cornerback Tre’Davious White, bringing back the veteran on a one-year deal. The move came as a surprise—even to quarterback Josh Allen, who only found out when he saw White in the locker room during voluntary workouts.
White had been released by Buffalo in March 2024 as part of salary cap adjustments. After a stint with the Los Angeles Rams and a midseason trade to the Baltimore Ravens, he returned to face his former team in the playoffs, where the Bills emerged victorious in the divisional round.
Speaking to the media, Allen admitted he’d been off social media and had no idea White had rejoined the team until he spotted him in person. “I walked into the locker room, saw him, and had to ask our equipment manager to confirm it was really him,” Allen said.
White expressed gratitude for the opportunity to return, noting that Buffalo was the only team he wanted to play for. “I feel like I’m back where I belong,” he said. “This is home. I told my agent, if Buffalo’s not interested, don’t bother calling me about anywhere else.”
White, originally a first-round draft pick in 2017, started 82 games for the Bills and played a major role in ending the team’s 17-year playoff drought during his rookie year. Despite battling two major injuries in recent seasons, he remains a valuable asset.
With cornerback Rasul Douglas departing in free agency, White could compete for a starting spot alongside Christian Benford. Even if he takes on a backup role, his experience and leadership are expected to add vital depth to the secondary—a concern last season when injuries exposed a lack of reliable options.
