Knicks Insider Points to Karl-Anthony Towns After Game 2 Loss to Pistons
The New York Knicks suffered a tough loss in Game 2 of their opening-round playoff series against the Detroit Pistons, with their offense struggling in key moments. Notably, the team’s major offseason additions, Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns, failed to contribute down the stretch, both going scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Towns, in particular, was almost completely absent from the second-half game plan. After putting up 10 points before halftime, he attempted only three shots in the third quarter and none in the fourth. His lack of involvement drew criticism from analysts.
Sports reporter Ian Begley suggested that Towns’ limited impact was a significant reason for the defeat. “Towns didn’t take a single shot in the fourth and only three in the second half, which raises questions about how the Knicks approached their offense,” Begley noted. He also highlighted New York’s poor rebounding performance, as Detroit dominated the boards throughout the game.
Despite the Pistons missing backup center Isaiah Stewart, they still managed to outrebound the Knicks 48–34—an especially troubling stat considering Detroit had only one true center available.
Towns has a history of underwhelming postseason performances, and the Knicks, who are counting on him as a key contributor, will need more production if they hope to win the series.
The team will look to bounce back on Thursday in Game 3, which will be played in Detroit with tip-off scheduled for 7 P.M. EST.
