Report: Steelers Haven’t Heard From Aaron Rodgers Since McAfee Appearance
The Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting to hear from quarterback Aaron Rodgers regarding his future, but communication has gone silent since his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show last Thursday.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Steelers haven’t received any updates from the veteran quarterback since his recent interview. On the show, Rodgers expressed openness to various possibilities and said he was “attached to nothing,” while emphasizing that his current focus remains on non-football matters.
Although Rodgers spoke positively about Pittsburgh during the interview, he didn’t confirm whether he plans to return to the NFL in 2025 or retire. He has visited the Steelers this offseason and even trained with wide receiver DK Metcalf at UCLA, suggesting some level of interest. Still, the lack of follow-up communication leaves Pittsburgh unsure of where he currently stands.
Despite the uncertainty, the Steelers don’t appear overly concerned. The team has been in offseason draft preparation mode, and as long as Rodgers’ stance hasn’t changed since their last conversation, there’s no immediate urgency. However, an update from Rodgers could still influence how Pittsburgh approaches the draft, particularly at the quarterback position.
The team is reportedly considering drafting Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the 21st overall pick. An ideal scenario could involve drafting Sanders and having him develop behind Rodgers, should he choose to play another season. However, with other pressing needs — especially on the defensive line — quarterback isn’t the only focus.
Rodgers has said that a team selecting a quarterback early wouldn’t impact his decision, which means the Steelers could proceed with their draft plans regardless of his status. For now, both sides appear willing to wait, and that approach may continue into the summer. The true test will come once training camp begins — until then, there’s no pressure for a decision.
