Running back Jaylen Warren has officially signed his one-year restricted free agent tender with the Pittsburgh Steelers, securing his place on the roster for the 2025 season. The team announced the signing on Tuesday, ensuring that Warren will return as a key part of their offense. With Najee Harris now playing for the Los Angeles Chargers, Warren is positioned to take over as the Steelers’ starting running back.
Warren joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State and quickly became a valuable contributor. His speed and burst have brought energy to Pittsburgh’s offense over the past two seasons. In 2023, he totaled 784 rushing yards and averaged over five yards per carry, showcasing his ability to break off big plays and keep drives alive.
Although his production dipped slightly in 2024 due to a hamstring injury, Warren still remained productive. He finished the season with 511 rushing yards and averaged over four yards per carry. In addition to his work on the ground, he contributed as a pass-catcher with 38 receptions, further proving his versatility in the backfield.
With Harris no longer in Pittsburgh, the Steelers are expected to look for a reliable backup to support Warren. Despite the need for depth at the position, the team has confidence in Warren’s ability to carry the load. His consistent performance in limited opportunities has earned him the chance to be the feature back heading into the new season.
Warren’s journey from undrafted rookie to starting running back highlights his determination and steady development. Now entering his third season, he’ll be given the opportunity to lead Pittsburgh’s ground game and help drive the offense forward in 2025.
