Guardians Place Lane Thomas on Injured List with Wrist Bruise
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians have placed center fielder Lane Thomas on the 10-day injured list due to a bruised right wrist. The injury dates back to April 8, when Thomas was hit by a pitch during the team’s home opener against the Chicago White Sox. He has played in just five games since then, including his most recent appearance in Pittsburgh.
The roster move is retroactive to April 20. In response, the Guardians have called up infielder Will Wilson from Triple-A Columbus.
Thomas, 29, joined Cleveland in a trade with the Washington Nationals last July. Although he struggled during the regular season, he became a standout performer in the postseason. Notably, he hit two home runs in the AL Division Series against Detroit, including a grand slam in Game 5 off Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, helping the Guardians move on in the playoffs.
Will Wilson, 26, has been performing well in the minors, hitting .324 with six home runs and 18 RBIs in 18 games for the Columbus Clippers. He had homered in three of his last four games before being called up. This marks Wilson’s first appearance in the major leagues. Originally a first-round pick by the Angels in 2019, he was later traded to the Giants and eventually picked up by Cleveland in the Rule 5 Draft this past offseason.
Additionally, the Guardians moved right-handed pitcher Trevor Stephan to the 60-day injured list as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
