Las Vegas Raiders Expected to Target Ashton Jeanty With 6th Overall Pick in 2025 NFL Draft
Following their trade for veteran quarterback Geno Smith, the Las Vegas Raiders are no longer expected to pursue a quarterback with the sixth pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With the position addressed, attention has shifted to two top offensive prospects: running back Ashton Jeanty and wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan.
McMillan offers a big-bodied receiving threat at 6-foot-4, with a playing style similar to Drake London. He could pair well with star tight end Brock Bowers, forming a dynamic receiving duo. Despite the appeal, current reports suggest the Raiders are more likely to focus on Jeanty.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, multiple league sources believe the Raiders’ front office and coaching staff are fully sold on Jeanty, viewing him as their likely selection at No. 6. One NFL executive even described the pick as a “foregone conclusion.”
Jeanty, who finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up, is widely considered one of the top three prospects in the draft. Many scouts see him as a future All-Pro and possibly the most talented running back to enter the league since Adrian Peterson. Others compare his potential to that of Saquon Barkley.
In 2024, Jeanty rushed for 2,601 yards and scored 29 touchdowns, marking one of the best individual seasons by a running back in college football history. Though standing at 5-foot-9, his explosive play style and production have set him apart.
If selected, Jeanty would be the centerpiece of new head coach Chip Kelly’s offense, with expectations to contribute immediately and potentially earn a Pro Bowl nod as a rookie. His presence could also help elevate the performance of both Geno Smith and Brock Bowers, making the Raiders’ offense more dynamic in 2025.
