Rumors Link T.J. Watt to Buffalo Bills, But Two Big Issues Stand in the Way
The Buffalo Bills have already made a splash this offseason by signing edge rusher Joey Bosa and adding several other defensive linemen. However, their pursuit of top-tier defensive talent may not be over.
Rumors are circulating that Buffalo could be a potential landing spot for star edge rusher T.J. Watt, who is entering the final year of his contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although Watt remains one of the league’s premier defenders, he showed signs of decline late last season and is now 31 years old.
One national outlet suggested the Bills, along with the Lions and Commanders, are among the top contenders that could benefit most from adding a veteran like Watt. Despite his age, his experience and durability still make him a valuable asset.
However, there are two major obstacles to any potential trade. First, the idea that a team would offer multiple first-round picks for a 31-year-old player is highly unlikely. Second, the main reason Pittsburgh would consider trading Watt in the first place is to avoid committing to a long-term deal reportedly worth around $40 million annually—an expensive investment for a player approaching the later stages of his career.
While adding Watt could significantly enhance Buffalo’s defense and improve their chances of overcoming AFC rivals like the Chiefs, a deal appears improbable. Watt has long been the cornerstone of the Steelers’ defense, and unless their stance changes dramatically, he may remain in Pittsburgh for the foreseeable future.
