2 Eagles Players Who Might Be Gone by May
With the 2025 NFL Draft approaching, the Philadelphia Eagles could part ways with a couple of current players as they look to reshape their roster. Following the team’s Super Bowl win and the departure of several players in free agency, changes are likely on the horizon. Here are two players who may not be with the team by next month.
1. Dallas Goedert – Tight End
Tight end Dallas Goedert has been the subject of ongoing trade rumors. According to a report from Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, multiple teams believe the Eagles are open to trading Goedert, potentially in exchange for future draft picks if a 2025 pick isn’t offered.
Goedert is entering the final year of his contract. Had he remained consistently healthy, there might have been a stronger case for a contract extension. However, injuries have played a big role in recent seasons. In 2024, he missed seven games due to hamstring and knee issues, finishing the regular season with 42 catches for 496 yards and two touchdowns. He performed better in the postseason, with 17 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown.
In previous seasons, Goedert also missed time due to injuries—a broken forearm in 2023 and a shoulder injury in 2022. Despite these setbacks, he remains one of the league’s more complete tight ends when healthy, contributing as both a receiver and blocker. If the Eagles move on, finding a replacement who can do both effectively will be a challenge, though the front office likely has a plan in place.
2. Byron Young – Defensive End
Defensive end Byron Young’s future in Philadelphia is also uncertain. Known for prioritizing strong defensive line play, the Eagles are expected to add more talent to their pass rush during the draft, which could impact Young’s standing on the roster.
Claimed off waivers from the Raiders last season, Young was originally a third-round pick who only played six games as a rookie. After being released by Las Vegas, he joined the Eagles but spent most of the season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Though designated to return in early January, Young was never activated ahead of the team’s Super Bowl appearance. With the departure of Josh Sweat to the Cardinals, Brandon Graham’s retirement, and underwhelming performances from other pass rushers, Young’s position remains in flux—especially if the Eagles bring in more defensive ends through the draft.
