Aaron Rodgers’ Snubbing of the Steelers Impacts NFL Quarterbacks
The Pittsburgh Steelers are considered the top team likely to sign veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but until recently, the race wasn’t so clear-cut. The Minnesota Vikings had been one of the teams Rodgers appeared interested in joining. While they initially showed some interest, they have since moved away from pursuing him, mainly due to their current quarterback situation.
Sam Darnold, who was the Vikings’ starter last season, surprised many by making his first Pro Bowl. However, with Darnold now with the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota’s focus has shifted to developing their 2024 10th overall draft pick, J.J. McCarthy. After suffering a torn meniscus during the preseason last year, McCarthy was sidelined, but now that he’s healthy, the Vikings are eager to shape him into their future starting quarterback. Although they are still without a backup quarterback, they don’t feel the need to bring in someone like Rodgers to fill that role.
With Minnesota out of the running, the Steelers now have a clear path to pursue Rodgers. The veteran quarterback has yet to announce his decision regarding his playing future for the 2025 season. The Steelers are hoping for a swift resolution, as it will allow them to adjust their strategy for the 2025 NFL Draft.
