Notre Dame Women’s Basketball Adds Two Players Through Transfer Portal
The Notre Dame women’s basketball program has experienced significant roster turnover in recent weeks. Three players were selected in the WNBA Draft, and others, including standout Olivia Miles, have entered the transfer portal. With just one incoming freshman, Notre Dame has turned to the transfer portal to fill out its roster.
The first addition is graduate transfer Malaya Cowles from Wake Forest. Coming off her best collegiate season, Cowles is expected to make an immediate contribution to Notre Dame’s front court. The 6-foot-3 forward from Wilkesboro, North Carolina, averaged 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 56% from the field.
The second newcomer is Gisela Sanchez, who most recently played for Kansas State. Originally from Barcelona, Spain, Sanchez began her college career at Arizona before transferring to K-State following an injury that sidelined her for the 2021–2022 season. Last season, she averaged 5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and logged about 15 minutes per game. At 6-foot-4, Sanchez brings size and international experience to the Irish front court.
