Puzzling Giancarlo Stanton Injury Update Raises More Questions Than Answers
Despite a strong offensive performance in a recent win over the San Francisco Giants, the New York Yankees continue to struggle with consistency at the plate. Outside of Aaron Judge, Ben Rice, and Paul Goldschmidt, the lineup has largely underperformed since their explosive start to the 2025 season.
The team could certainly use Giancarlo Stanton’s power, but his ongoing injury saga has only added to the confusion. Stanton has yet to appear in a game this season due to lingering discomfort in both elbows that disrupted his spring training. Each new update on his status has been more ambiguous than the last.
Before Sunday’s game, manager Aaron Boone gave a vague update, stating that Stanton remains with the team in New York, has been hitting in the batting cage, and is now “starting to move around more outside.” While this may sound like progress, the phrasing left many questioning the situation.
Boone’s comment raised uncertainty—was Stanton previously unable to move around outdoors? What exactly does that mean for his recovery? Is the calf issue that emerged earlier this spring still a factor?
It’s possible Boone was simply suggesting Stanton is nearing a return to full baseball activities, such as base running. Still, given Stanton’s history with injuries, fans are understandably skeptical. The lack of clarity only fuels frustration, leaving the impression that updates are doing more to obscure than clarify his path back to the field.
