Bills WR Keon Coleman Under Pressure After Inconsistent Rookie Season
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman showed signs of promise during his rookie year, but a late-season injury kept him out for several games, and he struggled to regain momentum upon returning. Heading into his second season, expectations are rising, and Coleman is being urged to take a significant step forward.
Concerns About Coleman’s Ability to Create Separation
Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News pointed out that while the Bills didn’t expect blazing speed from Coleman when drafting him early in the second round, his issues with getting open may have been greater than anticipated.
“Every scouting report mentioned his lack of separation,” Skurski noted. NFL’s Next Gen Stats reported that Coleman averaged only 2.0 yards of separation—among the lowest in the league. According to Skurski, Coleman will need to improve his route running to consistently create space against defenders.
Despite finishing the year with 29 catches for 556 yards and four touchdowns, Skurski emphasized that Coleman is one of the players under the most pressure to improve in 2025.

Head Coach Sean McDermott Weighs In
Head coach Sean McDermott echoed these concerns in his postseason comments. He acknowledged Coleman’s strong start but said things became “rocky” after the hand injury that kept him out for five games.
“He had momentum early, but the injury derailed that,” McDermott said. “Now we’re looking for him to learn from that adversity and come back stronger in his second year.”
McDermott stressed the importance of Coleman putting in the work during the offseason, saying it’s now Coleman’s chance to prove he has the drive and determination to make a leap forward.
