Buffalo Bills Linebacker Terrel Bernard Signs Four-Year Contract Extension
Terrel Bernard, one of the Buffalo Bills’ key leaders on and off the field, has signed a four-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2029 season.
Bernard, who was named a team captain for the 2024 season, wrapped up his third year in the NFL with 104 tackles, two interceptions, five tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, one sack, and three passes defended. His consistent play and leadership were crucial to the team’s defensive success.
One of Bernard’s standout moments came in the AFC Divisional Round against the Baltimore Ravens, where he forced a pivotal fourth-quarter fumble. The Bills capitalized on the turnover with a field goal that helped secure their win. Another key performance came in Week 11 against the Kansas City Chiefs when Bernard intercepted Patrick Mahomes on a critical 4th-and-13 play late in the fourth quarter, sealing the victory for Buffalo.
Over his three seasons with the Bills, Bernard has appeared in 46 games and started 31. His career stats include 263 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 12 quarterback hits, five interceptions, 15 tackles for loss, eight passes defended, and four fumble recoveries.
Bernard’s breakout season came in 2023 when he became one of only a few players since 1982—alongside Greg Lloyd, Richard Dent, and Seth Joyner—to record at least six sacks, three interceptions, and three fumble recoveries in a single season.
A product of Baylor University, Bernard was selected by the Bills in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
